Tried to Make It Pretty in 10 Hours
The work «Tried to Make It Pretty in 10 Hours» was created for the exhibition Irma La Douce – Revisited at the Penthouse Gallery, Zurich. The former Irma La Douce Cabaret was turned into a gallery for three months before it was remodelled into apartments. «Tried to Make It Pretty in 10 Hours» deals with the situation and the traces of the past of this place. With the massive use of colour, an attempt was made to cover the history of the space and to embellish it (i.e. to make
it pretty). The chosen colour, Cell Pink, is, like the room itself, very ambivalent. On the one hand, it has a calming effect within a few seconds, but if you spend more time in the pink room, the effect may shift to the opposite and become unpleasant and disturbing.
